We Carry A Full Line Of Smoke Vents
There are two basic categories of smoke vents and they are the fusible-link and melt-out types.
Fusible-Link Vents
Fusible-link units are available in metal lid or sky light styles. Skylight style smoke vents can be supplied as single or double domes.
Fusible-link units are available under the following approval agency rating scheme:
- Non-rated metal lid style where only the link itself is UL-rated
- UL-rated
- FM and UL-rated
- The FM rating on fusible-link units is given to units which test out to open at 10 pounds per square foot of snow load.
Melt-out Vents
Melt-out vents are available as single or double skylight domes and in clear-over-clear and clear-over-white styles.
Melt-out vents commonly carry FM ratings. Only recently has UL begun rating acrylic and fiberglass domes.
These vents come in the following standard sizes:
4 x 4, 4 x 8.
Our Approach to the Best Smoke Vent Solution
Roof Curb Systems offers a full line of smoke vents including both fusible-link and melt-out systems. We will work with you to determine the most efficient vent sizes and combinations to accommodate your floor-to-vent ratio.
Some notes on smoke vents:
1. When working with you on a smoke vent quotation we want to explore as many supplier options as possible to get you the best product for your money. Please allow one day to complete smoke vent quotations.
2. If a nonstandard size such as 6 x 10 or 5 x 9 is requested, always offer your client an alternative using a standard size such as 4 x 8. Although this may require more vents and curb systems to achieve the needed floor to vent ratio, using standard component sizes will normally result in lower cost.
Example:
The TRAC Rail Roof Penetration System was supplied, along with fusible link metal lid FM approved smoke vents, on a 475,000 square foot distribution warehouse.
Original Specification: ninety-three 6 x 10 units with curbs, without TRAC Rail
Price: $309,400.00
Alternative:
One hundred-forty 5 x 8 units with TRAC Rail
Price: 223,578.00
Roof Curb Systems will be glad to assist you in finding the most economical pack- age for you and your client.
3. If possible, never use any unit over 8 long. An 8 unit requires a 98 curb. This is the maximum length that will fit within two purlins and still allow for thermal movement.
Example:
98 curb length
3 Purlin Web
10 Upper Curb Flange
6 Lower Curb Flange
3 Allowance For Total Thermal Movement
120= 2 Standard Purlins at 60 O.C.
